Website made with…
I’m using Hugo to maintain this website. The theme I’m using is the Hugo Octopress theme, to which I have made some modifications.
Coming from maintaining a blog manually with a bunch of template HTML files, and manually updating RSS feeds, article listings and so on and so forth: I love Hugo!
Javascript
Javascript isn’t entirely absent from this webstie. I use it for the following:
- Katex rendering
- Analytics (see next section) That being said, aside from those, this website is fully functional with Javascript disabled! Wow!
Analytics
I’m using Goat Counter for analytics; this is a privacy-respecting alternative to Google Analytics, which is also rather lightweight.
Why am I using analytics in the first place? Curiosity!
Hosting
This website, as you can probably tell from the URL, is hosted on Neocities. I like how simple it is to set up a website on this platform; the only thing I dislike is the mandatory HTML tutorial after you create an account.
I think Neocities is a rather apt tool for a simple personal blog; because of how easy it is to use. That being said, I am looking to host my website elsewhere with a custom domain in the future.
Workflow/tools
I’m in a bit of a limbo with the tools I use right now. I’m back on macOS after over 4 years and I’m not fully accustomed to the selection of tools available on this platform. That aside, what I’m currently using is the following:
- macOS 15; I’m not going to upgrade to macOS 26 for now. The whole liquid glass stuff isn’t the reason I’m not upgrading though—I just think it looks too broken/rough and padded. The excessive padding really turns me off; there’s way too much.
- But coming from Linux, at least my experience with terminal usage and file management mostly carries over.
- My text editor fow now is VSCodium. I don’t know what it is, but I’m not really clicking witih this text editor even though I’ve used it a bunch before. But it’s getting the job done for now.
- I did move away from Emacs! Installing and using Emacs on macOS was a level of jank I’ve experienced before but don’t want to again.
- I’m still getting the hang of Git, but I use that for version control
- I mostly end up using the built-in VSCodium terminal when I have that open, but for when I need a dedicated terminal, I’m using iTerm.
